What is JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® is designed to treat a wide range of needs.

JUVÉDERM® is a collection of injectable facial fillers that can help enhance your facial features by plumping lips,1,2 smoothing wrinkles,2,4 or restoring lost facial volume.1,5-7 JUVÉDERM® delivers results that look and feel natural*3,8 as it’s active ingredient, hyaluronic acid,1,2,4-7,9 is naturally occurring in our skin.10-12

*In an in vivo study, a filler that has integrated with the tissue may give a natural look and feel.13

**Based on a search of published clinical studies of hyaluronic acid facial fillers in November 2019. A duration of 24 months was established in Juvéderm® VOLUMA with lidocaine, depending on the treatment area chosen.16

What are facial fillers?

Facial fillers are injectable gels used to restore1,5,6 or add volume1,2,5,7 to the face.

There are different facial fillers for different treatments10 – whether that’s helping to provide a lifted look,2,5-7 contouring,1,9 creating symmetry,1 filling in lines or deep folds,2,4,7,9 or enhancing a particular feature like the lips.1-3,7

As we age, our skin renews itself more slowly.18-20 This is in part due to a loss of hyaluronic acid,18,20 as well a loss of collagen and elastin.18-20 This can sometimes result in dry, thin skin and the appearance of wrinkles and folds.18-20

Hyaluronic acid facial fillers like JUVÉDERM® contain a form of hyaluronic acid1-2,4-7,9 that is injected directly into the skin and can help reduce the signs of ageing,23-25 or add volume1,5-7 — either by restoring volume lost over time or providing additional enhancement. Some hyaluronic acid facial fillers can also add deep long-lasting hydration* to the skin.11,22

*Based on a study of 131 adult patients who received multiple microdepot injections of JUVÉDERM® VOLITE in the intradermal layer. Cheek skin hydration was measured at adepth of 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm by the MoistureMeterD® instrument at Months 1, 4,6 and 9. Study conducted using JUVÉDERM®VOLITE without lidocaine.15 Long lasting is up to 9 months following a single treatment.15 70.6% of patients (n=127) reported being satisfied/somewhat satisfied with how hydrated their skin was at Month 9 after treatment.15

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in our skin.10-12 It maintains hydration by binding with water molecules.10,21

The active ingredient in JUVÉDERM® facial fillers is hyaluronic acid.10-12 Our thoughtfully designed hyaluronic acid gels are made to integrate into tissue fast, as soon as one week after injection.
This means that patients could experience natural-looking results, which they can be satisfied with. ††13,26,27
JUVÉDERM®’s range of hyaluronic acid facial fillers are designed to achieve a variety of beauty goals. These include helping to replace lost facial volume,1,5-7 plumping lips,1-3,7 smoothing out lines and wrinkles2,4 and improving skin hydration.11,22

  2.   What’s your practitioner’s experience with fillers? And knowledge of facial anatomy?
  3.   Can they share any before and after pictures? This can help give you a clear idea of what may be possible.
  4.   Talk about potential side effects, how to minimise risks and after care.

Are there any side effects from JUVÉDERM®?

Mild, temporary side effects can occur after treatment with JUVÉDERM®.1,2,4-7,9 These typically appear around the injection site in the hours and days following your treatment and can include:1,2,4-7,9

-Redness
-Swelling
-Itching
-Pain when touched
-Prickling sensation in the hands and feet
-Firmness/bumps
-Bruising
-Discolouration

These reactions may show up immediately after treatment, or after a short delay, however they are not likely to last longer than a week.1,2,4-7,9 In the unlikely event that inflammatory reactions persist for more than one week, or if any other side effects develop, speak with your doctor.1,2,4-7,9

What can I expect during my JUVÉDERM® consultation?

You’ll also want to talk a bit about your overall health with your provider in order to make the best possible decisions about a treatment plan that’s tailored to you.17

What does the treatment process look like?

Most treatments take 20 minutes to one hour33 and may allow you to return to your routine the following day.22

JUVÉDERM® treatments typically take 20 minutes to an hour.33 However, they are specific to each individual and may vary depending on the treatment plan that is created for you by your provider. You’ll begin to see the volumising effect of JUVÉDERM® immediately.28 As the hyaluronic acid in JUVÉDERM® begins to absorb water in your skin, it will continue to expand slightly over 24 hours following your treatment. Most people can return to their normal routine on the day after they are treated, depending on the treatment they receive.22

Are JUVÉDERM® treatments painful?

JUVÉDERM® facial fillers contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic that can help reduce any discomfort you may feel during treatment.1,2,4-7,9

When considering how painful the treatment is, everyone is different and therefore has different pain thresholds. However, your provider will do all they can to ensure you are comfortable.

How much does JUVÉDERM® treatment cost?

The cost of your JUVÉDERM® treatment will be determined by the treatment plan created by your provider. Variables that affect the cost of your treatment include the number of areas on your face being treated, the total volume of product used during your treatment, and your choice of clinician.

For example, a holistic treatment plan that includes treatments in the cheeks, around the eyes, and in the lips is likely to cost more than a treatment in one area of the face like the lips. Based on the clinic you choose and what you’re looking to achieve, your provider will suggest a treatment plan and explain the specific costs before your treatment begins.

How long does JUVÉDERM® last?

JUVÉDERM® is not permanent, is it?

No, the active ingredient in JUVÉDERM®, hyaluronic acid, is naturally metabolised by your body over time10,11,39 – meaning that while JUVÉDERM® can help you achieve results that last from 9-24 months depending on the particular filler used and areas treated,14,15 your results are considered non-permanent and your enhancements from treatment will gradually fade away over time.10,11,39
